Jewish Family & Children‟s Service is this year‟s beneficiary of the students‟ generosity at Temple Beth Sholom Schools. JFCS will receive over $800 from the school‟s annual Rosh Hashanah Apple Bake. Monies donated by the bake sale will support JFCS‟ Kosher Food Pantry which helps feed families at risk of becoming homeless, seniors on limited fixed income and individuals who are in financial crisis.
All students in the Justin Lee Wiesner Preschool and Goldie Feldman Academy (grades K-8), spent time in their classrooms donning baker‟s caps and whipping up apple-inspired delicious treats, including apple pies, apple cake, caramel & chocolate covered apples, and even apple doggie treats. Students learned how the apple is traditionally associated with the Rosh Hashanah holiday and how its sweet taste signifies the hope for a rewarding new year.
“We believe strongly in the tradition of tzedakah and helping others in need. What better organization than JFCS to help out at this special time of year,” says Kavita Vasil, principal of Temple Beth Sholom Schools. To further the school‟s tradition of mitzvah or giving back, TBSS also collected canned goods for JFCS through the fall.
Over $12,000 has been given to charities by TBSS since the annual bake sale began over fifteen years ago.
